Evaluation of the biotechnical characteristics of vetiver and paspalum grasses for use in soil reinforcement techniques under erosion threat

ABSTRACT Soil erosion on slopes demands the use of techniques that promote soil cohesion, increasing its shear strength, while contributing to foristic-landscape recovery. This study aimed analyze morphological characteristics vetiver and paspalum grasses, in order understand their contribution stabilization, under greenhouse conditions. The following parameters were evaluated: plant height; number tillers per plant; root length, diameter, volume dry matter. Both species showed similar values for length was higher grass. Concerning height, no statistical differences identified, showing both can a good cover. grass presented performance several morphometric characteristics, when compared grass, strong potential be adopted as part recovery degraded areas related stabilization.
